Raman spectra, electron probe microanalysis results, and images for burbankite from the Rocky Boy stock, Bears Paw Mountains, Montana

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: August 25, 2025 | Last Modified: 20250519
This U.S. Geological Survey data release is a collection of Raman spectra, electron probe microanalytical results, and images for burbankite [(Na,Ca)3(Sr,Ba,Ce)3(CO3)5] from the type locality at the Rocky Boy stock, Bears Paw Mountains, Montana. Burbankite was described by Pecora and Kerr (1953) for the first time from samples collected in the Bears Paw Mountains (in their publication the location was called the Bearpaw Mountains). The material used in this study is on loan from the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History Rock and Ore Collection. These samples were part of the collection William T. Pecora (U.S. Geological Survey) deposited to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History as referenced in Pecora and Kerr (1953). References: Pecora, W.T. and Kerr, J., 1953, Burbankite and calkinsite, two new carbonate minerals from Montana: American Mineralogist, v. 38, p. 1169-1183.
