Unified Field Study 5 (UFS-5)
The Unified Field Studies (UFS), established by the Algae Testbed Public-Private Partnership (ATP3), produced data on the effect of environmental and process conditions on algal growth rates and algal composition. The goal of the fifth Unified Field Study (UFS-5), performed December 2014 to March 2015, was to generate a robust inter-testbed dataset in algal biomass and lipid productivity and yield for two algal strains (Nannochloropsis oceanica KA32 and Chlorella vulgaris LRB-AZ-1201) as a function of different regional, and environmental conditions among sites by controlling non-geographical-related variables including production systems, production process and protocols, system scale, and algae strain. This experiment also compared the effect on productivity of three harvests per week with multiple dilution rates vs. one harvest per week with one dilution rate.
