Trajectory profile data from glider ru39, including pH, Total Alkalinity, and Aragonite Saturation State, deployed by Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey in the Mid-Atlantic Bight from 2023-08-17 to 2023-09-20 (NCEI Accession 0306235)
This dataset contains the trajectory profile data from glider ru39 from one seasonal deployment (2023-08-17 to 2023-09-20). This deployment (glider trajectory ru39-20230817T1520) was part of a project to conduct a seasonal baseline survey with a pair of gliders deployed in each season over two years with a full complement of available sensors to simultaneously map oceanographic and ecological variables. This glider was equipped with a coupled CTD/pH sensor, a WETLabs FLBBCD ECO puck configured for chlorophyll fluorescence and optical backscatter measurements, an Acoustic Zooplankton Fish Profiler (AZFP) multi-frequency echo sounder for active acoustic detection of pelagic organisms (transducers configured for fish using 38, 120, and 200 kHz), and a Vemco VMT fish telemetry receiver to track tagged species moving through the region. This deployment out of Sandy Hook, New Jersey ran a zig-zag transect along the coast of New Jersey, in and around current and planned offshore wind lease areas, and ended near Tuckerton, New Jersey. This delayed mode, high-resolution dataset contains CTD and chlorophyll a measurements, as well as pH, total alkalinity, and aragonite saturation state. Salinity, density, pH, TA, and aragonite saturation state have been calculated from raw variables. Acoustically-derived data are processed separately and not included in this package. QA/QC measures have been run according to the IOOS Manual for Real-Time Quality Control of pH Observations and IOOS Manual of Glider Data. Suspect/failed IOOS QC values, and values flagged by a CTD hysteresis test have been removed from this dataset. pH and dissolved oxygen (when applicable) have been adjusted for sensor lag by applying optimal time shifts calculated by glider segment in order to minimize separation between glider down and upcasts as described in Saba et al 2019 https://doi.org/10.3389/fmars.2019.00664 and Wright-Fairbanks et al 2020 https://doi.org/10.1029/2020JC016505.
