Short Mission Summaries of the Islands in the Stream 2002 Expedition (NCEI Accession 0001612)

Published by NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Metadata Last Checked: October 03, 2025 | Last Modified: 2004-07-06T00:00:00.000+00:00
The Islands in the Stream 2002 expedition was designed to explore and investigate deep-water reefs, rocky outcrops, and hard-bottom areas at the edge of the continental shelf, as well as on the continental slope, off the southeast coast of the US. As with Islands in the Stream 2001, the overarching theme of the expedition was to conduct geological, biological, and ecological observations of these habitats, and to collect samples for further analysis as a means to better characterize these little known and poorly understood areas. This accession contains short summaries of the three missions of this 2002 expedition. NCEI no longer has the video from these missions; however, they are part of the Central NOAA Library's collection. The current call numbers are QH541.5.C7 C3733 2022 for Mission 1, QH541.5.C7 C3743 2002 for Mission 2, and QH541.5.C7 C3753 2002 for Mission 3.
