Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: September 07, 2025 | Last Modified: 20250516
This data set provides polar bear microsatellite genotypes derived from twenty loci (CPH9, CXX20, CXX110, CXX173, G1A, G10B, G10C, G1D, G10H, G10J, G10L, G10M, G10P, G10U, G10X, MU50, MU51, MU59, MSUT2, 145P07). Blood, buccal swab, skin, and hair samples for microsatellite genetic analysis were collected from polar bears from the Southern Beaufort Sea between 1981 and 2023. Blood, buccal swab, and skin samples were collected through physical capture and remote biopsy sampling efforts on spring sea ice off the northern coast of Alaska. Hair and some skin samples were collected during captures, remote biopsy efforts, and non-invasive hair-snag sampling on land in the autumn on the Beaufort Sea coast.
