NCCOS Assessment: Orthoimagery, vegetation composition, and soil properties data from Swan Island, Chesapeake Bay, Maryland from 2018 to 2023 (NCEI Accession 0304076)
This dataset contains imagery, GPS coordinates, elevation data, and sediment characteristics collected from a restored marsh island in Chesapeake Bay; Swan Island. The data were collected for the purpose of quantifying the extent to which the mature project reflected the intended design over time. The data collected for assessment is stored in one .csv file. The .csv file contains gps data (lat, long, and elevation), vegetation data (relative species abundances) and sediment bulk density characterizations from 80 fixed monitoring locations. The fixed monitoring plots were distributed in a stratified random design that was intended to provide equal sampling of each of the created habitat types (low elevation regularly flooded marsh [L], high elevation irregularly flood marsh [H], dune [D], and transitional habitat between dune and high marsh [T]. All fixed plots were visited annually from 2020-2023. This spreadsheet also includes pre-restoration data (coordinates, vegetative species present, and sediment bulk density) at multiple locations across the island. The pre-restoration data was collected in 2018.
