The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Status Book Dataset contains information on the participation status of a jurisdiction with land use authority, along with attribution of Community Rating System (CRS) status, risk map effective dates. The NFIP enables property owners to purchase flood insurance. In return, communities agree to adopt and implement local floodplain management regulations that contribute to protecting lives and reducing flood risk in identified floodplains . The NFIP Community Status Book contains the current NFIP participation status of a community that joins the program. A community can fall into one of three NFIP status categories: 1. Participate in the NFIP; 2. Does not participate in the NFIP; or 3. Is suspended or withdrawn. A NFIP community status is an indicator variable for disaster assistance consideration process.
