Multi-beam seafloor topographic and magnetic survey data from the research vessel Xiangyanghong 01 in the North Pacific Ocean near Mariana trench from 2017-03-03 to 2017-03-31 (NCEI Accession 0222965)

This dataset contains multi-beam seafloor topographic and magnetic survey data from the research vessel Xiangyanghong 01 in the North Pacific Ocean near Mariana trench. In 2017, the research vessel XIANGYANGHONG 01 conducted a seafloor topographic and magnetic survey near the Mariana Trench in the Western Pacific Ocean, in order to study the relationship between the subduction of the Pacific Plate and the changes of seafloor topographic and geomagnetic characteristics. The multi-beam data covered the whole survey area and revealed clearly the topographic characteristics of trenches, seamounts and submarine plains in the survey area. The marine geomagnetic survey obtained the magnetic data of the survey area, which revealed distribution of the magnetic anomalies in the survey area. The banded magnetic anomalies in the north of the survey area reveal the seabed spreading history of the Western Pacific Ocean, while the magnetic anomalies in the trench area and the seamount area reveal the subduction of Western Pacific Ocean plate to the Mariana Trench. This is US State Department MSR cruise U2016-026. This data submitted as part of the World Data Service for Geophysics. Data are in PDF report.
