Low-flow Statistics and Basin Characteristics Data for Stream Reaches in the Plymouth-Carver Kingston-Duxbury Aquifer Area of Southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Office of Water Resources, developed regional regression equations for estimating selected low-flow statistics in the Plymouth-Carver Kingston-Duxbury aquifer area of southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod. This data release includes estimated streamflow statistics from regression equations for the 99-, 98-, 95-, 90-, 85-, 80-, 75-, 70-, 60-, and 50-percent flow durations for stream segments along river reaches in the study area. Groundwater contributing areas were derived from these stream segments (hydrologic model cells representing stream cells) using particle-tracking simulations in three existing groundwater flow models (associated data release by Carlson, 2025). Shapefiles of the groundwater contributing areas for each of the stream segments along the river reaches are also included as well as area percentage of storage (water bodies and wetlands) for the contributing areas. Groundwater contributing area and storage are the two explanatory variables in the regression equations. Additional information on the methods used is available in the accompanying USGS Scientific Investigation Report (Bent and others, 2025).
A child item is provided that contains streamflow statistics and basin characteristics (potential explanatory variables) for 4 USGS streamgages with 14 water years or more of record, 3 discontinued USGS streamgages with 1 to 3 water years of record, and 10 USGS partial-record stations with at least 10 or more miscellaneous measurements used to develop the regional regression equations. Information on the Maintenance of Variance Extension, type 1 (MOVE.1) record extension analyses used to estimate streamflow statistics at the discontinued streamgages and partial-record stations are provided. The Weighted-Multiple-Linear Regression (WREG) input and output files used to develop the final regional regression equations for Massachusetts are also provided.
