Invasive Plant Management Prioritization Tool (version 1.0)
The Invasive Plant Management Prioritization Tool is a generalized framework to help refuges decide which plants to manage in a particular management area. It was, in part, developed to help assist refuges with selecting target invasive plant species and areas for management and associated pre-management surveys (e.g. inventory and monitoring). Each decision element has proposed standard categories and values that can be edited to better meet the refuge's needs, along with an additional "custom definition and scale" (see Tab 1). Once decision elements are defined, they are weighted by the refuge staff to reflect the level of importance of each element in the refuge's decision (Tab 2). The overall score is calculated by normalizing the decision element values and weighting them by their relative importance (Tab 3 and Tab 4). Once the spatial distribution and infestation states of target species are understood (via the Regional Protocol Framework for the Inventory of Invasive Plants), management targets can be developed and management strategies can be evaluated and implemented.
