Geochemistry Data from the Little Fork River Basin, Minnesota

This data release contains geochemistry (trace elements) and sediment-bound phosphorus data from source and target samples to support geochemical sediment fingerprinting within the Little Fork River Basin, at tributary to Rainy River and Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota. Samples representing sediment sources in the basin were collected from 60 sites representing upland and near-channel settings. These sites included randomly selected locations within four land cover categories including agriculture (17), mature forest (13), harvested forest (15), and roads (15). Near-channel sampling sites included eroding streambanks (29) and ravines (15) within reaches that underwent rapid geomorphic assessment (RGA; see the companion dataset available at: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9GKOLVZ; https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/643d90c9d34ee8d4ade53ad5). The source sample data are provided in the 'LF_SedSAT_SOURCE.csv' data table. Samples representing fluvial target categories include composite streambed samples collected along RGA reaches, and suspended sediment collected at a network of passive-sampler and streamgage locations. Target sample data are provided in the 'LF_SedSAT_TARGET.csv' data table. Extraction of phosphorus was performed on a subset of source and target sediment samples and are provided in the 'LF_Pfractions.csv' data table. Sample and site information are provided in the 'SiteInformation.csv' data table. The LF_SedSAT_SOURCE.csv and LF_SedSAT_TARGET.csv data tables serve as the input data for use in the Sediment Source Apportionment Tool (SedSAT) for sediment fingerprinting (Citation; Gorman Sanisaca, L.E., Gellis, A.C., and Lorenz, D.L., 2017, Determining the sources of fine-grained sediment using the Sediment Source Assessment Tool (Sed_SAT): U.S. Geological Survey Open File Report 2017-1062, 104 p., https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr20171062.)
