Evaluation of the potential effects of three chemicals on the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) and hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axes using the Larval Amphibian Growth and Development Assay (LAGDA)

Published by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency | U.S. Environmental Protection Agency | Metadata Last Checked: June 27, 2025 | Last Modified: 2025-06-09
Three chemicals, 2-ethylhexyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (2-EHHB), 5-chloro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) phenol (triclosan), and 4-nonylphenol, branched (4-NP) were evaluated using the Larval Amphibian Growth and Development Assay (LAGDA) to investigate endocrine-mediated effects. A delay in development to NF stage 62 was observed for the three chemicals, however, histopathological evaluation revealed that the effects were likely not thyroid related. 4-NP caused increased stage scores in male and female gonadal duct development.
