Eight Multichannel Seismic Reflection lines acquired as part of a Seismic Evaluation of the Oil and Gas resource assessment of the Naval Oil Shale Reserve 2 (NOSR 2), Utah (ver. 1.1, December 2022)

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: July 16, 2025 | Last Modified: 20221202
This data release contains seismic data for eight (8) two-dimensional (2D) multichannel seismic reflection (MCS) lines recorded in 1981 in Utah as part of a Seismic Evaluation of the Naval Oil Shale Reserve 2 (NOSR 2) commissioned by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The lines are designated TRW-1 through TRW-8. This release includes original digital field data, including support metadata records (Navigation, Observer Notes, Survey Notes, maps, etc.). Shapefiles of the geophone stations/shotpoints and seismic lines are part of this release to help document the location of the surveys. Also included are the aforementioned MCS lines in SEG-Y format, reprocessed by the USGS in 1993-1994 to the point of unmigrated and migrated time using (at that time) state-of-the-art seismic processing software and included as part of a 1994 USGS evaluation of the Oil and Gas Resources of NOSR-2, commissioned by DOE. Links to publications resulting from the two resource evaluation studies mentioned above are given below. The SEG-Y format seismic files and associated support data contain all the information necessary to reprocess the lines from the field data or to load the processed data onto a seismic interpretation workstation. Version 1.0, September 2022 Version 1.1, November 2022 - Included missing FieldTapes.zip, which were accidently not included in 1.0 version. New version of 'Original-Shotpoint-Map.tiff' included, which has a minor label change.
