Conductivity, temperature, depth, fluorescence, optical backscatter, laser in-situ scattering and transmissivity, acoustic zooplankton biomass, net zooplankton counts, and suspended particle data from the RV HUGH R. SHARP in the upper Chesapeake Bay from 2007-02-23 to 2008-10-09 as part of the Bio-Physical Interaction in the Turbidity Maximum (BITMAX-II) program (NCEI Accession 0062884)
Data set contains Cruise Reports and CTD data from 8 main cruises in the upper Chesapeake Bay on board the R/V Hugh R. Sharp from February 2007 to October 2008. Objectives of this cruise were to sample the estuarine turbidity maximum (ETM) region of the Chesapeake Bay with a suite of in situ sensors (conductivity, temperature, depth, fluorometer, optical backscatter sensor, laser in-situ scattering and transmissometry device (LISST 100C), and Tracor acoustic profiling system (TAPS)), Niskin bottles, MOCNESS zooplankton nets, and a digital imaging particle settling tube with in-situ capture (DIPSTIC). The ETM in this system is most prominent in deeper waters of the shipping channel near the freshwater/saltwater interface. Our sampling strategy included 1) axial surveys of the region with CTD casts and Niskin bottles conducted at 11 stations, 2) axial surveys to sample zooplankton with MOCNESS net tows, and 3) time course sampling with Niskin bottles and DIPSTIC at three anchor stations.
