Chance of potentially damaging ground shaking (MMI=VI) in 100 years, based on the 2021 update to the National Seismic Hazard Model for Hawaii.
This data set represents the chance of potentially damaging ground shaking (MMI=VI) in 100 years for a grid of points with a spacing of 0.02 degrees in latitude and longitude. Using the appropriate hazard curve at each grid point, the annual frequency of exceedance of experiencing MMI VI based on a peak ground acceleration of 0.08461g, and on a 1.0-second spectral acceleration of 0.06856 for NEHRP soil site class D (Vs30 = 260 m/s). This average rate is converted to a Poisson probability of damaging shaking with a 100-year return period.
