Annual land surface temperature from 1985 to present (collection 2)

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Metadata Last Checked: September 05, 2025 | Last Modified: 20250701
Surface Urban Heat Island (SUHI) land surface temperature (LST) data is derived from Landsat thermal band. The LST including annual mean LST (MeanLST) and annual maximum LST (AVEMaxLST). The annual mean LST (MeanLST) therefore represents the average of all clear observations in a specific year. The seasonal maximum temperatures were then averaged to represent the annual mean maximum LST (AVEMaxLST) for a specific pixel. Data are provided across 71 urban centers (regions) throughout the Continental U.S. derived from Landsat Collection 2 Landsat U.S. Analysis Ready Data (ARD) for Surface Temperature. The data ranges from 1985-2023, and covers data within 5 km of each city. NOTE: While a previous version is available from the author, all datasets for pilot cities can be found in previously versions
