This report describes the design and estimation procedures to the supplemental Mental Health Surveillance Study (MHSS) data collection to the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). The report describes instruments used in measuring mental illness, sample design and selection (including the MHSS clinical sample characteristics), data collection and processing, weighting, nonresponse adjustment, and the development of the model for estimating mental illness.
